Greasable 1/2" Lift Shackles
For
some crazy reason I will never know, the previous owner my CJ thought
it would be a better idea to install humongous lift shackles that
measured 6.5" eye to eye instead of just doing a 1" body
lift. Needless to say, this poor mans lift did allow 35" tires
to fit but it also made driving in a straight line virtually impossible.
I'm telling you, if you are considering lift shackles, don't go any
higher than 1/2" or you will regret it. The other problem I had
with the old shackles was that they were so tightly cranked on, they
wouldn't rotate very well and gave a really harsh ride. The solution,
get lower shackles to help correct my steering problem and go with
greasable/poly bushings to soften up the ride. I decided
to buy a set of MORE 1/2" lift shackles because they were a little
cheaper then Daystar's and I have always been pleased by their products
and customer service. Needless to say, these things are built well
and stout! After installing them, the lower shackles did wonders to
my steering woes and the greasable bushings (torque correctly) really
smoothed out my ride... almost as comfortable as my TJ if you can
believe it. If you're looking for a new set of shackles or just want
a little more lift, I would highly recommend MORE's.
Installation
I installed my
new MORE greasable shackles when I was working on replacing my rear
cross member. Your FSM, Haynes or Chiltons manual should be adequate
enough to show you how to install these. You are also more than welcome
to read my new rear end write-up
which also shows one way of doing it.
Please let me know if you have any questions. |
